  • From the archives: The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection

Sounds like the title of a self help book right? NO, its the new Lexus slogan. I was watching the half time game of the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game earlier, and that slogan came on. I was like that would be an awesome sermon title. But for now Im going to use that slogan (without Lexus's knowledge hahahahahaha) in the terms of our Christian walk.

Passion: something that you put energy, time, and or effort into. Something that consumes you with desire.

Persuit: to chase after someone or something, to catch or strive.

Perfection: to strive or to have achieved a level of superiority, or a level that can not be shown above. The highest level that of a goal or objective that can be obtained.

So if we think about this slogan in it's context with our walk with God what do we see? If Lexus can passionately persue to put the utmost excellence in their cars then why can't we with God?

First of all are we putting passion into our walks with God. Has God become our comsuming passion. Is he the thing in our life that gets the most attention, the most time, the most energy put into it. Are we so consumed with desire to seek and follow after God that it burns with in our very souls. If so, great. If not, then its time to. Is he getting all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Next if we have that passion for God, are we in persuit of him? Are we chasing after Christ. Are we hungry and thirsting for the things of God. Or do we even have a hunger for them. Christ says in Matthew 5 that if we hunger and thirst after righteousness we will be filled. Ya see in our walk's with God, he does something that is kinda of hard to comprehend. God doesnt stand still for us. When we first come to God, getting in his presence, having prayers answered comes easy. But the more and more we grow in our walk with God, the harder it seems to feel God there, the harder it seems for God to answer prayers. Do you know why? The more and more you grow in your walk with God, the more and more God is going to take steps away from you. Don't look at me weird, hear this out. If it was continually easy for us to get into Gods presence then their wouldnt be much to God. So that's why he makes it harder and harder each time. He wants us to chase after him. He wants us to persue him. If he stays in one place, then their is no chase after God. But if he makes us chase after him, then our reward is altogether greater. When we do get into his presence, it is stronger and better then ever. So now are you persuing him? If youre just sitting there on the couch watching countless hours of t.v. chances are you're not. But if youre digging in his word and praying to him everyday, then most likely youre in a race to catch God.

So now if we have passion, and were persuing God, are we persuing God to reach perfection. Christ said that we will be made perfect through him. Perfection comes not so easy. It's the constant battle of realizing where you fall short and getting back up and striving for perfection again. It's like climbing up a mountain, if you nearly reach the peak, yet fall down. You dont give up, you get up and strive for the top of the mountain. Full perfection comes only in Christ. When we dont live Christ, but let Christ live through us, then we reach perfection. Christ was the pure blameless lamb of God, he was perfect in all of his ways. When we let Christ over our lives, not just the co-pilot, but the pilot of the ship then we can reach perfection through him. He has to have full control, or we will utterly fail and just give up. If we want to passionately persue perfection in our walks with Christ then it begins with having so much desire and fire for God, that you chase after him to daily live in his presence, that it's not you who live, its Christ who lives in you.

Hope that made sense for all of ya, I know it did to me, but then again I think theology has been playing to much on my brain lately. LOL, anyways have a great day all of ya. I would like to give some shout outs as I end this entry.
