  • The lifestyles of a pastor/ public works employee

Have you wondered what a 800 square foot, one bedroom, one bath, apartment in Poteau, Oklahoma looks like? Have you ever wondered what my pad is like? Well prepare to take a tour... Haha, from a year and half ago, so let's take the time warp to simpler times in 2007...

Before we look inside you must look outside. This is my 2000 Dodge Neon. It has over 120,000 miles and I fear needs brakes. Well new ones atleast.

As we enter the apartment you see my white on white on white kitchen. In here I heat up various Boston Market meals, chicken tenders, and pot pies. In my fridge you will find water, water, water, milk, oj, and some yogurt.

Say hello to my kitchen table. (Hello) My table isn't used for eating much, rather for holding old magazines and bills i need to pay.

This is my multifaceted enterntainment system. The speakers don't work, but make an excellent conversation piece. My tv is a PHilco made in 1992 bought brand new from K-Mart. That tv made need to be replaced too, I cant stand a jumpy screen while I'm watching SportsCenter.

As we walk through the door we see my bedroom. Yes, none of my bedding matches, but im the only one who sleeps in this bed. Thus, I dont really care. At the foot of my bed is my Bible, probably reading Psalms that day.

As we take a sharp left, well not that sharp, we see my computer and desk where I write witty sermons, insightful blogs, and kick solitairs butt! Oh yeah that door leads to the bathroom.

Say hello to my staple diet, we call it the protein shake, anorexics and bulimics turn away. Total calories = 1,098, grams of protein = 70, taste = so, so. In fact as we speak im drinking one right now.

The finished product looks a little like this, enjoy!

As we move along their are other parts of my life I would like to introduce you to...

Here in the Ouachita (pronounced Washita) Mountains we are surrounded by great and lovely landscapes. This is part of the Queen Willimena drive that goes from Tallahina, OK to Mena, AR. Absolutely stunning during the fall time.

I like NASCAR, and I mean a lot. I love seeing cars take left turn after endless left turn. This is a real Dale E. car in Minneapolis at the Mall of America.

I love weather. My second most visited site (behind Xanga ofcourse) is Weather.com, i.e. the weather channel. This shot was taken last June in Minnesota after a freak hail and lightning storm on I-35.

Not, let me introduce you to my job(s)

Manhole this is a Xangan, Xangan this is a manhole. I work for the municipality of the city of Poteau, Oklahoma. Right now I am inspecting the 800+ manholes in our city, and boy is it a nasty job. I check their depth, the flow, the material its made of, what type of line (plastic, pvc, clay, steel) is feeding into the manhole, and if any outside water is leaking in through the lid. Some would snub this job but I thank God for it every friggin day.

In case you hadn't already known I am a pastor. To be more precise I am a student/ associate pastor at an Evangelical church in Oklahoma. Being a Christian is all that matters to me, and it gives me so much joy and honor to know that God chose me to help encourage and edify his church to better serve him. Who are those people behind me, well thats my teenyboppers getting ready for a trip to Kansas City for Acquire the Fire. When I was 18, around midnight at a church in North Kansas City God placed the call in my life to go into the ministry. I accepted the job I have now with my church at the age of 19, and have been chugging along ever since.

Besides my savior, the most important person in my life.

My sassybear, my sugarbear, my Jordan. We met in our intro to Psychology class in the fall of 05. She caught my eye and I apparently caught her eye, but neither of us had the guts to say anything. Lol, she saw my purity ring and thought I was married, thus her caution towards approaching me. As time progressed we started talking more, but nothing serious at all. One day before class I was reading in Matthew preparing for Sunday school when she walked in through the door. After small talk about our favorite books we both discovered our shared faith.

On a Wednesday night after my college's collegiate ministry worship service I left to go get some milk. I knew she worked at the local grocery store, it was 10:30 at night, and I knew this would be my best chance to ask for her number. I walked in, fumbled over my words incoherently, and some how got the words and nerve out to ask for her number. We talked candidly, and a week later went on our first date. We ate at Garfields, walked around the mall and the local park, and saw Jarhead (bad decision, lol). That was on November 4th, 2005 and we have been dating ever since.

All throughout high school I prayed and prayed for my future mate, but thank God that he knew the perfect time to bring her into my life. Just like everyone told me, "When you stop looking for her she will show up." So I did and so it happened. I can't wait to begin to spend the rest of my life with that girl!

Well Xangans that is a brief synopsis of my life and my daily going ons. If you have any questions feel free to ask, Id love to answer them. Have a great day in the Lord.

    Captured by grace, Phill
