What a wonderful naked picture taking nation we live in...
In an era of women such as sex taping Paris Hilton, drunkard Lindsey Lohan, and self starving Nicole Richie parents thought that perhaps a brink of light was gleaming just beyond the horizon. This new source of light? No, not the Olson twins, not Martha Stewart, not even Hillary Clinton.
This new era of clean role models came in the form of High School Musical 2. High school musical 2 appeals to kids and teens alike with its catchy tunes, hot dance moves, and clean atmosphere provided by Disney. Well today the image of Disney, HIgh School Musical, and one of the new and upcoming teen girl role models was marred. Vanessa Hudgens, the on air and in real life girl friend of Zac Ephron admitted to the National Enquirer that the photos spreading around the internet of her nude, wearing nothing but a gold chain around her waist, is in fact her. She apparently took these photos for Zac, 26 in all, in the nude with her camera phone. Some how these pictures were intercepted by a third party (wow, who ever saw that one coming) and are now circulating the web tantalizing the sex drives of young and old men everywhere. Now some of you read this and say, "Well phil thats her business. Whatever she wants to do with her body is between herself and no one else. WHo are you to judge?" Well for all of you who believe me to be way to legalistic about this, think about this story...
A guy was at a college recently checking out his alma mater and wanting to visit some of his old professors. As he entered one of the buildings he saw a well build young man wearing a red t-shirt with these words "Ridding the world of virgins, one girl at a time." The guy was appalled by the college kids t-shirt and asked him why he was wearing it. The college student got mad at him and asked him why he had such a problem with the t-shirt. The older man simply told the student, "Put yourself in my shoes buddy! Imagine that you're 17 year old daughter comes to you and says Im going out on a date tonight daddy. My boy friend will be over soon to pick me up." He comes inside, kisses your little girl on the cheek, gives her a hug, and in big letters on his shirt it reads "Ridding the world of virgins, one girl at a time." Would you look at this guy and smile and tell them to have a wonderful night, or would you kick him out the door and say that he's not even worth his little girl stepping on.
Guys, gals, how ever old you may be imagine yourself married with an eight year old girl who idealizes high school musical 2. Imagine your girl reading about Vanessa bearing all on her cell phone just to send pictures to her boy friend! Is that the kind of role model you want your little girl following after.
Once more, if this world has shown us anything, people will let you down. You can not put your hope in people. When high school musical 2 hit the air waves i praised it because it was good wholesome fun and entertainment, but now how can I support something whose cast members so explicitally go against what I want the girls of this nation to model.
